Course Duration:

Maximum time to finish the course is until 31 December 2023.

Expected Study Hours:
Up to 1277 hours, depending on your existing skills and knowledge.

Study Method:
Online, self-paced modules delivered through the Ab2 digital learning portal.

Recognition of Prior Learning:

If you have prior skills and knowledge built through previous learning, education, or employment experience, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) and you may not have to study all course modules.

Course Information

Couse Delivery & Duration:

Course Delivery

This course is self-paced and completed via distance education using Ab2 Institute of Accounting’s online learning management system. Training and Learning activities include live trainer-led study sessions, interactive learning content, course workbook activities and independent study.

At Ab2, we pride ourselves on providing the best student experience, and we will support you throughout the whole program completion by providing

  • Online learning, enabling you to study anywhere, anytime
  • One and one and group coaching sessions with industry experts
  • A supervised assessment is required for completion of the modules within the Tax Agent Certification.

Course Duration

You will have up to 13 May 2023 starting from your commencement date to complete this course. Students can enrol anytime during the year under this delivery method.

Entry Requirements

Students enrolling must have completed one of the following:

  • FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set
  • FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or equivalent
  • FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting or equivalent

Students entering this course without any of the entry requirements may opt to enrol in the FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping with Ab2 Institute of Accounting.

  • It is recommended that students:
    Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language, literacy, and numeracy skills (at least Year 12 or equivalent)

 

  • Students are required to:
    Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI);
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Evaluation; and
  • Undertake a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation

 

All students considering a self-paced, online course should have sufficient digital literacy skills and should also have:

  • Self-directiveness and self-motivation to undertake their studies consistently
  • Online and distance education readiness to successfully engage in learning content

Learner Groups

There is a total of 1277 expected study hours for this course, depending on your existing skills and knowledge.

We have identified four student groups for this training product.

  • Beginner Group (Full Study Pathway) – limited relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. No recent industry experience. Study hours is up to 1277 hours.
  • Intermediate Group (Partial Study Pathway) – moderate relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. Limited recent industry experience. Includes learners who:
    • are interested in becoming a finance sector supervisor, assistant accountant or any roles related to accounting leadership without any previously completed formal qualification but may have some minor administrative work experience related to bookkeeping or accounting for less than a year
    • may have some supervisory experience, but in another industry unrelated to accounting.
    • may be working as a finance sector supervisor, assistant accountant or any roles related to accounting leadership but in another country
    • may have previously completed a Certificate IV qualification in the FNS Training Package
    • have completed FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting or units within this qualification that remain equivalent to this current training product

Study hours is up to 882 hours.

  • Advanced Group (Partial Recognition Pathway) – extensive relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. Some industry experience. Includes learners who:
    • have worked previously as a finance sector supervisor, assistant accountant or any roles related to accounting leadership in the past, and therefore are currently without any recent industry experience
    • may be working as a finance sector supervisor, assistant accountant or any roles related to accounting leadership for their own business without any formal qualification for at least a year.
    • have previously completed superseded versions of this qualification, skill sets or units of competency from the FNS10 or FNS Training Package
    • have previously completed FNS50215 Diploma of Accounting but do not have any current industry experience
      Study hours is up to 699 hours.
  • Expert Group (Full Recognition Pathway) – extensive relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. Extensive industry experience. Includes learners who:
    • have previously completed FNS50215 Diploma of Accounting and are currently working in the industry for in the last 2 years
    • are currently working as a finance sector supervisor, assistant accountant or any roles related to accounting leadership for the last 3 years.

Study hours is up to 268 hours.

Module 1: Tax Me if you Can

This module includes one unit and will cover the following topics:

FNSTPB401 Complete business activity and instalment activity statements

  • Identify compliance and other requirements applicable to business activity
  • Analyse and apply industry codes of conduct associated with work activities
  • Review and apply goods and services tax (GST) implications and code transactions
  • Report on payroll activities and amounts withheld
  • Reconcile and prepare activity statement
  • Lodge activity statement
Module 2: Crunching the Numbers

This module includes two units and will cover the following topics:

FNSACC517 Provide management accounting information

  • Gather and record operating and cost data
  • Analyse data and assign costs
  • Prepare cost reports and budgets
  • Analyse variances and review costing system integrity

 

FNSACC513 Manage budgets and forecasts

  • Prepare budget and forecast estimates
  • Document and monitor budget outcomes
Module 3: Show Me the Money

This module includes two units and will cover the following topics:

FNSACC514 Prepare financial reports for corporate entities

  • Compile and analyse data
  • Prepare reports

 

FNSACC511 Provide financial and business performance information

  • Assess client needs and analyse data
  • Prepare and provide financial and performance advice to client
Module 4: Taking Care of Risky Business

This module includes one unit and will cover the following topics:

FNSACC516 Implement and maintain internal control procedures

  • Review corporate governance requirements
  • Implement internal control operating procedures
  • Monitor internal control operating procedures
Module 5: Incoming Tax (Part 1)

This module includes one unit and will cover the following topics:

FNSACC512 Prepare tax documentation for individuals

  • Gather client income data and verify client, organisational and legislative requirements
  • Identify, record and present clients’ non-complex income tax documentation
  • Manage lodgement of clients’ non-complex income tax documentation
Module 6: Incoming Tax (Part 2)

This module includes one unit and will cover the following topics:

FNSACC601 Prepare and administer tax documentation for legal entities

  • Identify taxation requirements for complex lodgements and returns
  • Gather and analyse data relevant to clients’ tax position
  • Prepare and present tax documentation
  • Lodge tax documentation
Module 7: Law and Order - CLU (Commercial Law Unit)

This module includes three units and will cover the following topics:

FNSTPB503 Apply legal principles in contract and consumer law

  • Research legal aspects of contract and consumer law
  • Analyse legal issues and risks associated with operation of a business
  • Apply knowledge of contract and consumer laws to client circumstances
  • Maintain legal knowledge

FNSTPB504 Apply legal principles in corporations and trust law

  • Research legal aspects of corporations and trust law relevant to client’s circumstances
  • Analyse issues and risks associated with operation of a business
    Apply knowledge of law to business structures
  • Maintain legal knowledge

FNSTPB505 Apply legal principles in property law

  • Research legal aspects of property law
  • Analyse legal issues and risks associated with operation of a business
  • Apply knowledge of property laws to client circumstances
  • Maintain legal knowledge

The FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting, which supersedes this course, was released on 15 June 2022. FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting has a teach out period of 12 months. Students will have until 13 May 2023 to submit requirements so our we can mark assessments and issue certificates.

Resources Required
To complete your studies, you will need to have access to:

  • Computer with:
    • Internet access through Google chrome (at least 5+mbps)
    • Latest MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, or equivalent applications
    • Latest Adobe Acrobat Reader
    • Printer and Scanner
  • Headset and webcam for participation in study sessions
  • Basic Calculator (Handheld or on a computer)
  • At least three (3) individual volunteers for role play tasks

 

Once we receive your enrolment, your Ab2 Student Experience Advisor will reach out to see if he or she can answer any questions about starting the program.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is conducted using a combination of Questioning (e.g. written/oral questions, interviews, self-evaluation, and questionnaires), Product-based Methods (e.g. reports, displays, work samples, role plays, presentations, and outputs), and Direct Observation (e.g. assessments in real-time in the workplace or in a simulated off-the-job situation that reflects the workplace).
