Diploma of Accounting – FNS50217

Course Information

A gold standard for accounting professionals in Australia, the Diploma of Accounting is a highly sought-after credential. Building strategically on previous study, this nationally recognised accounting certification will see your career path strengthened along with your earning potential and standing. Approved by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB), this diploma also qualifies you for free student membership with the Institute of Public Accountants.

Aimed at current accounting professionals, enjoy a deeper dive into:

  • comprehending taxation documentation for individuals and legal entities, while preparing the same

Who should enrol?

Anyone currently working in bookkeeping and accounting seeking a higher education qualification to expand their existing knowledge, skills and employability.  

Those with accounting experience and a prior qualification who are looking to become a Management Accountant, Financial Analyst, Auditor, Financial Controller or similar.

With this qualification you can become a Registered Tax Agent if you fulfil the below:

  1. Have the required work experience or tertiary education. For example, an accounting diploma plus two years’ work experience in the last five years (certain criteria apply), or a recognised tertiary degree and a year’s experience (full requirements are outlined on the Tax Practitioners Board website).
  2. Be 18 or older.
  3. An applicant must be ‘fit and proper’ (have integrity, good reputation, and have no convictions related to tax fraud or dishonesty).
  4. You must be insured against professional liability.
  5. Complete the online application on the Tax Practitioners Board website and provide all supporting documents.

Price: $2,250 or $99.52/week over 26 weeks

Course Duration

A part-time study approach (10-15 hours a week) will take around 18 months to complete or full-time (20-25 hours a week) will take around 12 months to complete, depending on industry experience.

  1. Completion of the FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set;Or
  2. Completion of FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent;
    or its superseded versions (FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting) or their equivalent.

FNSTPB401 Complete business activity and instalment activity statements

  • Identify compliance and other requirements applicable to business activity
  • Analyse and apply industry codes of conduct associated with work activities
  • Review and apply goods and services tax (GST) implications and code transactions
  • Report on payroll activities and amounts withheld
  • Reconcile and prepare activity statement
  • Lodge activity statement
Module 2: Crunching the Numbers

FNSACC517 Provide management accounting information

  • Gather and record operating and cost data
  • Analyse data and assign costs
  • Prepare cost reports and budgets
  • Analyse variances and review costing system integrity

Module 5: Incoming Tax (Part 1)

FNSACC512 Prepare tax documentation for individuals

  • Gather client income data and verify client, organisational and legislative requirements
  • Identify, record and present clients’ non-complex income tax documentation
  • Manage lodgement of clients’ non-complex income tax documentation
Module 6: Incoming Tax (Part 2)

FNSACC601 Prepare and administer tax documentation for legal entities

  • Identify taxation requirements for complex lodgements and returns
  • Gather and analyse data relevant to client tax position
  • Prepare and present tax documentation
  • Lodge tax documentation
Module 7: Law and Order - CLU (Commercial Law Unit)

FNSTPB503 Apply legal principles in contract and consumer law

  • Explain the operation of the Australian legal systems and processes relevant to contract and consumer law
