Recognition of Prior Learning:

If you have prior skills and knowledge built through previous learning, education, or employment experience, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) and you may not have to study all course modules.

Course Information

Course Delivery & Duration:

Course Delivery

This course is self-paced and completed via distance education using Ab2 Institute of Accounting’s online learning management system. Training and Learning activities include live trainer-led study sessions, interactive learning content, course workbook activities and independent study.

At Ab2, we pride ourselves on providing the best student experience, and we will support you throughout the whole program completion by providing

  • Online learning, enabling you to study anywhere, anytime
  • One and one and group coaching sessions with industry experts
  • A supervised assessment is required for completion of the modules within the Tax Agent Certification.

Course Duration

You will have up to 13 May 2023 starting from your commencement date to complete this course. Students can enrol anytime during the year under this delivery method.

 

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language, literacy, and numeracy skills (at least Year 12 or equivalent)

Students are required to:

  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI);
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Evaluation; and
  • Undertake a Personal Learning Plan Evaluation

All students considering a self-paced, online course should have sufficient digital literacy skills and should also have:

  • Self-directiveness and self-motivation to undertake their studies consistently
  • Online and distance education readiness to successfully engage in learning content

Learner Groups
There is a total of 1206 expected study hours for this course, depending on your existing skills and knowledge.

We have identified four student groups for this training product.

  • Beginner Group (Full Study Pathway) – limited relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. No recent industry experience. Study hours is up to 1206 hours.
  • Intermediate Group (Partial Study Pathway) – moderate relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. Limited recent industry experience. Includes learners who:
    • are interested in becoming a payroll clerk, payroll officer or any roles related to payroll processing without any previously completed formal qualification but may have some minor administrative work experience related to payroll or accounting for less than a year (e.g., as a result of completing a lower-level FNS qualification)
    • Learners who may have some supervisory experience, but in another industry unrelated to accounting
    • may be working as a payroll clerk, payroll officer or any roles related to payroll processing but in another country
    • may have previously completed a Certificate IV qualification in the FNS Training Package
    • have completed FNS50215 Diploma of Accounting or units within this qualification that cross over to this qualification

Study hours is up to 908 hours.

  • Advanced Group (Partial Recognition Pathway) – extensive relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. Some industry experience. Includes learners who:
    • have worked previously as a payroll clerk, payroll officer or any roles related to payroll processing in the past, and therefore are currently without any recent industry experience
    • may be working as a payroll clerk, payroll officer or any roles related to payroll processing for their own business without any formal qualification for at least a year.
    • have previously completed superseded skill sets or units of competency from the FNS10 or FNS Training Package

Study hours is up to 740 hours.

  • Expert Group (Full Recognition Pathway) – extensive relevant knowledge or skill in the competence contained in this qualification. Extensive industry experience. Includes learners who:
    • are currently working as a payroll clerk, payroll officer or any roles related to payroll processing for the last 3 years.

Study hours is up to 268 hours.

FNSINC401: Apply principles of professional practice to work in the financial services industry

Module 2: Tax Me if You Can

FNSTPB401: Complete business activity and instalment activity statements

  • Identify compliance and other requirements applicable to business activity
  • Analyse and apply industry codes of conduct associated with work activities
  • Review and apply goods and services tax (GST) implications and code transactions
  • Report on payroll activities and amounts withheld
  • Reconcile and prepare activity statements
  • Lodge activity statements

 

FNSTPB402: Establish and maintain payroll systems

  • Establish and maintain payroll requirements
  • Record payroll data

  • Handle and maintain payroll enquiries
Module 3: EQ and Ethics

BSBPEF502: Develop and use emotional intelligence

  • Unpack emotional intelligence

FNSINC504: Apply ethical frameworks and principles to make and act upon decisions

  • Frame the ethical question applicable to the situation
  • Determine the ethical response to the situation

Module 4: Keep on Payrollin’

BSBFIM502: Manage payroll

  • Establish procedures for the management of payroll
  • Prepare payroll data
  • Authorise payment of salaries
  • Administer salary records
Module 5: Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less

FNSPAY501: Process salary packaging arrangements and additional allowances in payroll

  • Assist employees to interpret prepared salary packaging arrangements
  • Process salary packaging arrangements in payroll systems
  • Process additional allowances in payroll systems
  • Issue payment summary and document outcomes

 

FNSPAY502: Process superannuation payments in payroll

  • Establish parameters and systems for superannuation payments
  • Collect and prepare information
  • Calculate and verify superannuation payments
  • Distribute and maintain information about superannuation payments

 

FNSPAY503: Process complex employee terminations in payroll

  • Gather employee information and verify organisational requirements relating to termination
  • Prepare information for termination
  • Process termination
  • Document outcomes of process and maintain information
Module 6: Law and Order: SPU (Special Payroll Unit)

FNSPAY504: Interpret and apply knowledge of industrial regulations relevant to payroll

  • Research industry regulations relating to payroll service provision
  • Interpret the impact of regulations on payroll services
  • Ensure payroll services comply with regulations
  • Maintain compliance of payroll services with regulations

 

FNSPAY505: Interpret and apply knowledge of taxation systems relevant to payroll

  • Analyse taxation systems relevant to payroll
  • Evaluate impact of taxation systems on payroll services
  • Ensure payroll services comply with taxation systems
  • Maintain compliance with taxation systems

The FNS50422 Diploma of Accounting, which supersedes this course, was released on 15 June 2022. FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting has a teach out period of 12 months. Students will have until 13 May 2023 to submit requirements so our we can mark assessments and issue certificates.

Resources Required
To complete your studies, you will need to have access to:

  • Computer with:
    • Internet access through Google chrome (at least 5+mbps)
    • Latest MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, or equivalent applications
    • Latest Adobe Acrobat Reader
    • Printer and Scanner
  • Headset and webcam for participation in study sessions
  • Basic Calculator (Handheld or on a computer)
  • At least three (3) individual volunteers for role play tasks

Assessment Methods
Assessment is conducted using a combination of Questioning (e.g. written/oral questions, interviews, self-evaluation, and questionnaires), Product-based Methods (e.g. reports, displays, work samples, role plays, presentations, and outputs), and Direct Observation (e.g. assessments in real-time in the workplace or in a simulated off-the-job situation that reflects the workplace).
